Why are we here? What is the purpose for your existence or for mine? Our lives are like one grain of sand on a beach and it passes as quickly as the tides ebb and flow. Yet we are here and we are all given opportunities to do good or to do evil. Each choice we make will affect the next events that come into our lives. Each decision we make affects someone else too. On this Erev Yom Kippur I realized why we are here in this age of time. We are for healing the world, Tikkun Olam. There are opportunities all around us for healing another person's wounds if not with money then with loving acts of kindness. For example if someone is hungry feed them or if a person is ill visit them which will bring them joy and comfort. Heal the world around you and plant seeds of peace and love. Do not get caught up in the momentum of hate and war because that is a waste of life unless it is in defense or to protect someone who cannot protect themselves. Do not be afraid of learning truth or of speaking it.
Stand up for what is good and what is right because by the time the tide changes your time on the beach will be over and it will be time to roll up your towel and go home. Enjoy the day at the beach and do what you can to keep the beach happy and clean. What risk do you have to do what is good and what is right? So many of us are afraid to be different or stand out and become victims ourselves or perhaps we feel silly.
Love is never a loss and being who you truly are is never silly! You were created and are special and necessary for this day and this time on this beach. You were not born two hundred years ago or in twenty years from now. You are here now and you don't know for how long. Stop being afraid to live and stop seeking happiness in things you can buy. Happiest moments are those where you are helping someone and knowing you have made a difference and have helped someone else. Share the love and Tikkun Olam!!
